Download the free myRUC Mobile App and register your vehicle. Place the Electronic RUC Display inside your windscreen, where your RUC licence can be seen from outside the vehicle. The Calculator gives you the app, display and costs involved in getting started.
Enter your vehicle’s current odometer reading and purchase the distance you need through the app. You can check your current licence details, licensed distance and purchase history without keeping track of separate paperwork. Smart Alerts also help you keep an eye on when a renewal may be due.
Once your new RUC licence is available in the app, transfer it wirelessly to the Electronic RUC Display. The display is self-installed, no wiring needed. The updated licence information is then visible on your vehicle without printing, posting or replacing a paper label to stay compliant -always.

WHY RUC?
Road User Charges (RUC) help pay for the upkeep of New Zealand’s roads. Currently they apply to vehicles that do not pay equivalent road tax as petrol users, including light diesel vehicles and qualifying electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles. You buy RUC in advance, in units of 1,000 kilometres. Before you use all the distance covered by your current licence, you need to purchase more – so your RUC is always in credit. Your current RUC licence must be displayed inside your windscreen. Failure to do so will result in a fine.
